The Best Vegan Ready Meals – Taste Test Review

by hannahandfitness

It’s been almost 3 months since I decided to go meat free for my lunches and 1 month since I decided to go vegan for 2 days of the week. Since then, I’ve tried and tested a whole variety of vegan ready meals and here’s a list of my favourites…

All Plants Imagery

All Plants

I thought I’d start with my favourite: the wonderful All Plants. I actually have these guys to thanks for encouraging me to go plant based 2 days of the week as part of their January challenge*. I’ve always been a bit of a meat head so I didn’t know how successful it would be, but honestly? I loved it so much. So much so I’m continuing to do for as long as I can in 2020. No pressure, right?

Anyway, I digress…

Despite the title, I’m not actually a massive ‘ready meal’ kinda girl. I actually really dislike most ready meals. In my opinion, they’re bland, unhealthy and more than often, dry and small portioned. But All Plants are different. They’re wholesome, healthy and bloody delicious if you ask me.

From their Rainbow Falafel Mezze to their Terikyaki Udon meal, colour is the name of the game for All Plants. And the best bit? Their meals are instantly freezed for convenience and taste which means I can quickly bang one in the microwave when works gets a little chaotic and I don’t have a spare minute (or two) to whip something up. Which let’s face it, is every day.

They also boast a great concept too – encouraging people to slowly eat more plants instead of throwing the word ‘vegan’ at them all in one go. Plus, All Plants are a sustainable company who make big efforts to reduce their waste.

If you try any vegan company this year, make sure All Plants get ticked off your list.

BOL Foods

BOL Foods are the guys I turn to when I need a little extra veg in my life. Truth be told, I’ve only opened my eyes up to vegan food since I decided to go meat free for my lunches and since then it’s almost as if my taste buds have opened up to a whole other world of flavour.

BOL Foods are delicious, nutritious and damn convenient. I’m yet to find a pot of goodness that I do not like from their range and quite frankly, their super soups are the dogs bollocks of vegan soups.

Yes, you absolutely have to shove one in your trolley next week.

Soulful Food Co

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, their West African Peanut & Chickpea With Red Rice pot is my favourite thing. Ever.

I’ll be honest and say that I haven’t really tried the rest of their range but truthfully, they deserved a spot in this blog post because of their African Peanut pot. That and the fact they’re vegan, gluten free and contain only natural ingredients.

Saying that, I’ll definitely be picking up a few other pots in the upcoming weeks…

Wicked Kitchen

I certainly have my favourites and my not-so-favourites from the Wicked Kitchen range, but I definitely think they’re worth a shout out seeing as they do the best sourdough vegan pizza I have ever tasted in my 26 years of being alive. Holy guacamole.

They are at the slightly pricer end, so I often see them as a treat every now and then, but if it’s a range you’re yet to try, then start with their pizza’s. They might look small, but they’re mighty in taste.

Gosh! Imagery

Gosh!

Gosh! are the first vegan food company I picked up on my first day of going meat free (for lunches), and since then their falafel bites (both flavours) have been a staple product in my weekly food shop. Out of the entire ‘meat alternative’ range – when it comes to vegan sausages etc – Gosh! have been the only company to wow me over.

You see, on my hunt to find the nicest and healthiest vegan/plant based meals, I’ve come to learn one thing: vegan does not mean healthy.

So if there’s anything you do on your journey to eat a little more plant based (or heck, go totally vegan), make sure you read the labels if you’re conscious about how natural the foods are that you’re eating.

While all the companies I’ve listed above are healthy and contain as much natural ingredients as possible, I’ve come to discover that a lot of the meat alternative companies are highly processed and packed with a load of rubbish.

But hey, if that’s your jam, then enjoy it. But if it’s not, keep checking those labels.

Happy plant eating x

I’ve been on a vegan diet for the past few months, just to see if I’d like it and it’s going pretty well. Finding vegan snacks / meals is always tricky for me, so seeing this post has helped me a lot when it comes to finding new meals. Thanks for the review as well!
