Good Hemp Plant-Based Milk Review

by hannahandfitness

Whether you’ve already made the switch to plant-based milk, or you’re currently pondering about making the change, there’s no doubt that consuming the goodness of the plant has amazing benefits for both our health and the environment. But as it appears, the dairy-free world can become a little bit confusing at times… Which plant-based milk has the most benefits? Is hemp milk healthier? Am I still getting enough calcium?

It wasn’t until the guys at Good Hemp reached out to me about their hemp plant milk, did I then realise just how nutritious and beneficial hemp milk can be to our health.

Not only is hemp one of the most sustainable planet-friendly plants around, but it’s also one of the most nutritious super seeds available. In fact, did you know that hemp milk is the only dairy-free alternative to provide a source of omega 3? No, neither did I. It’s also the most environmentally friendly option, requiring no pesticides and little water to grow.

But before I go into detail about the health benefits hemp can provide for plant-based milk lovers, let’s talk a little bit about the taste, shall we?

Good Hemp Milk Taste Test Review

I’ll be very honest in the fact that before receiving my gifted hemp milk from Good Hemp, I hadn’t really tasted hemp plant milk before. In fact, I’ve never tried it before. But, in the interest of keeping my diet varied, I was more than happy to try something a little different…

I broke my hemp virginity last week with a delicious bowl of granola (click here for my favourite granola recipe) and it went down a treat. Admittedly, hemp doesn’t boast much flavour as the other plant-based milks out there, but it sure does have a light nutty flavour. Once paired with food, I find that it becomes a little lost. In a nutshell, these were my thoughts…

  • Slighty creamy
  • Light
  • Sweet, but not too sweet.
  • No over powering flavour
  • A hint of nuttiness
  • Could have a slightly stronger taste

I tried the hemp milk on it’s own, in my coffee and, of course, in my morning breakfast bowl. Whilst the hemp milk tasted differently with each, I much preferred it in my coffee.

I usually prefer my coffee black or strong with a dash of plant milk, and although I hadn’t had much hope for a creamy morning get-up, it tasted just like my usual cuppa; tasty, strong and with a slight creamy compliment.

Good Hemp Milk Health Benefits

It goes without saying, however, that the health benefits of Good Hemp’s milk outshines the rest of the plant milk gang…

  • High in polyunsaturated fats which promote a healthy heart and normal brain function. In fact, just one glass of hemp milk provides 50% of your recommended daily allowance of omega-3. Jammy, huh?
  • Very sustainable. The hemp plant grows naturally without the use of herbicides or pesticides and with very little water. It breathes in 4x more CO2 than trees, and nothing is wasted when producing food and drink from hemp.
  • Doesn’t split in hot drinks.
  • Allergen-free.
  • Low in saturated fats and free from cholesterol.
  • Packed with healthy fibre.
  • With Vitamin E for healthy skin and nails, iron for healthy blood and potassium to help your organs do their thing, hemp hits the nutritional jackpot.

Good Hemp Hemp Seed Oil

Yes, strictly speaking, this is a milk review, but I couldn’t help but include another gem from Good Hemp – hemp seed oil.

Not only is hemp seed oil rich in omega-3, but it also happens to be the most effective plant source of omega-3 due to the unique combination of ALA & SDA omegas. It’s also high in long-chain omega-6, including GLA, the most effective form of omega-6 that maximises the benefits of this fatty acid including anti-inflammatory properties. And no, it contains absolutley no trans fats!

Whilst I’m usually an extra-virgin olive oil kinda girl, it’s super important to have a varied diet and, thanks to the health benefits hemp oil provides, it makes a great addition to a healthy lifestyle.

Just like the milk, Good Hemp’s hemp seed oil has a slightly nutty flavour to it which compliments certain dishes quite nicely. Although I’ve only used it for cooking, I’ve seen/heard many people use it for their skin, especially eczema and psoriasis sufferers.

So there we go, another plant-based milk to add to the gang. If you’re yet to try hemp milk and hemp seed oil, then I urge you to give it a go for both its unique flavouring and wonderful health benefits.
