Besides fitness, I like to think that my skincare routine is slowly working its way up the importance ladder. As somebody who likes to work up a sweat almost
Whilst my skin has been on a bit of a journey over the years, it’s probably the best it’s ever been – especially as I’ve just come off the pill too! Don’t get me wrong, it’s still not perfect and I still suffer from the odd blemish here and there, but it’s nothing like it was during my early twenties. Gosh, now that makes me feel old.
So whilst it’s still not perfect, and I’m still getting used to what works for me and my combination skin, I thought I’d share with you all how I got to this point and what products I use on a daily basis as an everyday
I would say I had typical teenage skin growing up. Whilst I suffered from clear(ish) skin, I also suffered from the odd spot here and there. Thankfully, this wasn’t too troublesome but of course, at the height of my hormones, it would have appeared that it was the end of the world when a new spot would erupt.
Fast forward a couple of years, my skin took a turn for the worst in my early twenties. At the time, I was shocked whenever a new volcano popped up along my jawline, but thinking back to it now, it’s no surprise really. I went out almost every weekend, juggled university deadlines with a part-time job and hit a new kinda height of stress. Not only were my hormones all over the place, but my nutrition was pretty questionable too.
Combination skin
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always suffered from combination skin. If it’s not oily, then it’s dry. And if it’s not dry, then it’s blotchy with blemishes. Over the years, however, I’ve learnt what my skin loves, hates, needs and loathes. I’ve also become pretty educated about the beauty do’s and don’ts when it comes to combination skin, as well as the importance of learning to double cleanse – thanks to Caroline Hirons.
Over the past year or so, I’d say that I’ve managed to nail a solid skincare routine that works for my skin. And the keyword is routine. Whilst it might not be perfect for some (and by no means am I some sort of expert), it seems to be working for me right now.
So, with that said, here are the products I use every day for my combination skin…
Morning skincare routine
My morning skincare routine contains a product I’ve been using since my school years. I know, I know. But despite trying a thousand and one other products out there – all expensive and non-expensive – I always go back to my childhood favourite, Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating SOS cleanser.
I’ll admit that the reviews online aren’t great (and trust me, I’m a review whore), but this product, without a doubt, is perfect for my combination skin. As someone who works out 6/7 days a week, my skin needs a product that has a slightly harsher exfoliation than others and offers ingredients to tackle the daily grime. Although I don’t wear much make-up throughout the day (if any), I still like to give my skin a thorough wash every morning and evening.
Anyway, my morning routine is pretty simple:
1) Cleanse my face with Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating SOS cleanser.
2) Finish with a little moisturiser. I love Olay Essentials Beauty Sensitive Fluid – another product my mum introduced to me in my school years.
3) And, during the warmer months, I’ll also apply La Roche-Posay Anthelios
And that’s it. My skin can be super sensitive at times and whilst I’d love to apply tons of lotions and potions to my face, I’d rather stick to what I know best (and what my skin loves me for right now). Plus, I’m not crazy enough to spend lots of pennies (or should I say pounds) on products that I’m not 100% sure about.
Night time skincare routine
My
1) Remove eye make-up with Nivea Eye Remover ( it’s honestly the best I’ve tried).
2) Remove other make-up with Garnier Micellar Water (my sensitive skin adores this).
3) Double cleanse with my beloved Neutrogena SOS cleaner and a muslin cloth.
4) And, On the days when my skin is a little drier than usual and not feeling like a scrub (mostly the winter months), I’ll swap my Neutrogena cleanser for Liz Earl Cleanse & Polish and simply cleanse my skin as stated above.
Whilst my skin loves this gentle alternative, I do find, however, that when I use this product for a few days in a row, my pores become a little congested and my skin doesn’t feel that clean.
6) After I’ve double cleansed, I’ll then moisturise my face with Olay Sensitive Fluid (during the summer months) or La Roche-Posay Nutritic Intense Moisturiser Riche (during the colder months when my face becomes super dry and extra oily).
7) I’ll then finish my
After 2+ years of consistent use, I don’t think I’ll ever turn to another product. Some people like to use it for full coverage, but I particularly like to apply it to my jawline, cheeks, any existing blemishes and over my nose area (to target any blackheads).
8) Once a week I’ll also apply a face mask to give my skin a thorough cleanse. I’ll do this after I’ve cleansed and before I moisturise.
After testing many different products out there, I always go back to La Roche-Posay Effaclar Anti-Blemish Clay Mask as I find that it’s pretty much a match made in heaven for my combination skin.
And that’s pretty much it! If I’m honest though, I do often question if I’m doing enough for my skin and if I could make any improvements with my routine. Although I love my current routine, I am in the market for a vitamin C serum (I’ve heard so many good things about them).
So, if you have any skin product recommendations (
Lots of love,

Taking care of your skin is very important. No matter whether it is summer or winter, your skin needs care very much. The hygiene you deal with, kind of food you eat and drink matters a lot. Making a good skin care routine will surely help to deal with skin issues. Thanks for sharing!
